The Nuyorican is located on East 3rd Street, between Avenues B and C, in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The Lower East Side is a lively, diverse and artistically active neighborhood, full of restaurants, stores, bars and galleries. (Those who spent time in the Lower East Side during the 1970s and 80s may recall that it was once an edgier area; the creative spirit of the neighborhood remains, but it’s now a safe neighborhood for people of all ages).
The easiest way to reach the Cafe is by taking the F subway line to the 2nd Avenue station. Follow the 1st Avenue exit out of the station, then walk north on 1st Avenue (away from Houston). Make a right on East 3rd Street and walk 2.5 blocks east and you’ll find us at 236 East 3rd Street.
Take the FDR Drive to the Houston Street exit. Make a right from Houston onto Avenue C and then make a left onto East 3rd Street. If you enter Manhattan via the Williamsburg Bridge or the Holland Tunnel, drive several blocks north to Houston Street and go east on Houston until you reach Avenue C; turn north onto C and then take a left on East 3rd. There is usually street parking available near the Cafe.
The Cafe is wheelchair accessible, but we suggest calling ahead so that we can have a ramp in place when you arrive. You can reach the office at (212) 780-9386.
