- A Gathering of the Tribes
A Gathering of the Tribes is an arts and cultural organization dedicated to excellence in the arts from a diverse perspective. Located on the Lower East Side of New York City, Tribes has been in existence since 1991. In that year, Steve Cannon, poet, playwright, novelist, and retired professor from the City University of New York, converted a portion of his apartment into an informal salon.
- Bowery Poetry Club
So many things to so many people, the Bowery Poetry Club was founded by Bob Holman, and is the home of the Urbana National Slam Team.
- Center for Puerto Rican Writers @ Hunter College
The Centro is a research center dedicated to the study and interpretation of the Puerto Rican experience in the United States. They are committed to making this research available and useful to those in community organizations, public policy, academia and the public at large.
- Downtown Urban Theater Festival
An ongoing performance series with various shows and presentations through the year. Has featured several of our Poetry Slammers who have crossed over into theatrical productions.

The critically acclaimed Moth Story Slam series has been @ the Nuyorican each month for a long time. Find out all about them here.

- The Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church
Historic home for poetry on the Lower East Side. One of the originals, still going strong.
- Urban Word
At the forefront of youth Poetry Slam, this group is too relevant to talk about briefly here. Urban Word holds yearly National Slams and has turned out some of the most interesting young poets on the scene. Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion 2007, Aja Monet, as well as other members of the 2007 National Team are veterans of Urban Word. (LINK National Teams>2007)
- Verbs On Asphalt: The History of Nuyorican Poetry Slam
The whole story of Poetry Slam at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, with all the players, photos & over an hour of video; from 1989 until today. A project created by Clare Ultimo.

Performance Space 122 is a multi-disciplinary arts center dedicated to finding, developing and presenting new artistic creations from a diversity of cultures and points of view. P.S. 122 provides emerging and mid-career artists an environment that encourages exploration, innovation and risk-taking.

Founded by Joseph Papp as the Shakespeare Workshop and now one of the nation's preeminent cultural institutions, The Public is an American theater in which all the country's voices, rhythms, and cultures converge.
- La Mama Experimental Theatre
La MaMa Experimental Theatre is a world-renowned cultural organization led by founder Ellen Stewart. For 46 years La MaMa has passionately pursued its original mission to develop, nurture, support, produce and present new and original performance work by artists of all nations and cultures. We believe that in order to flourish, art needs the company of colleagues, the spirit of collaboration, the comfort of continuation, a public forum in which to be evaluated and fiscal support.
