Ready to take your acting and writing career INTO YOUR OWN HANDS? Always wanted to perform your own material but SCARED SILLY about where to start? The Nuyorican Poets Café presents a FOUR WEEK INTENSIVE SOLO PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP, TAUGHT BY THREE TIME NATIONAL MONOLOGUE SLAM CHAMPION, KATIE NORTHLICH! Join Katie Northlich as she takes your unique performance chops and helps turn them into your own monologues and solo show! Make the industry come to YOU as you learn how to transform your material into a solo piece. In this intensive four-week workshop, Katie will focus on the art of ‘the monologue’ and help you channel that into your original perspective. Through discussion, solo stage work and physical and writing exercises, you will learn how to create a solid solo piece! It’s Fall of 2009… time to create your own work! Please note: This workshop will culminate in a casual showcase of work for family and friends and there will be solo stage time every class, so some acting experience is helpful!

Katie Northlich is a Four Time Manhattan Monologue Slam Champion, and she is the current Reigning Three-Time National Monologue Slam Champion. She has taught solo performance and monologuing at The Off-Broadway Milk Can Theatre Company, and she is currently the Head Writer for the acclaimed New York Variety Show, ‘The Rick Younger Show.’ Katie emphasizes the important fusion of physical, vulnerable, and storytelling in the arc of her characters, and she is a Private Solo Performance Instructor and Commissioned Monologue writer. Her current show featuring New York’s best Monologuists, ‘Shut Up And Talk,’ can be seen on the stage every month at the Nuyorican Poets Café. Her solo show, *Character Forum: A Thesis, was in New York Magazine as a pick of the week, and was chosen as a debut piece for the solo-performance based Stage Left Studio theatre, resulting in an extended, sold out run. TV: The Food Network, VH1, AMC, Virgin Mobile and the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. MONOLOGUING/SOLO PERFORMANCE: Second City NY Showcase, Stand Up NY, New York Comedy Club, Caroline’s on Broadway, Upright Citizen's Brigade, The People's Improv Theatre, Underground At Gene Frankel, The Makor, Stage Left Studio, The Bowery Poetry Club, Gotham City Improv, New York Film Academy, Urban Stages, Comix, Don’t Tell Mama’s, Galapagos, and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
